The Nõmme villa, built in the 1930s, came to us in a situation where decades of renovations and additions had disturbed the building’s original character. In collaboration with VNDL architectural firm, we undertook extensive research to understand what the villa once was and how to restore it authentically. The client’s wish was clear – to give the building back its 1930s functionalist character, which had been lost over time. The building, located in the Nõmme pine forest, needed an architectural refresh that would respect both its history and its surrounding environment.
Our approach was not simply to tidy up the exterior, but to restore the building’s true life. We used period reference books and consulted historical experts to ensure that every detail was true to the spirit of 1935. Terrazzo plaster, copper sheeting, granite and natural wood – each material was chosen for both aesthetic and historical authenticity. As a result of the project, we not only got a decorated facade, but also the restoration of a complete story – the building found its place and identity again in the cultural heritage of Nõmme. This is an example of how caring reconstruction can give new life to architecture without losing its soul.
