In the heart of Tallinn, where the urban space needs new energy, the Pille 16 office building tells the story of how modern architecture can create a dynamic dialogue with both the surrounding buildings and the daily lives of city dwellers. The winning solution in the architectural competition was born from the idea that the building is not just a workspace, but an active designer of the urban space, bringing life to both its users and passers-by.

The architectural concept of the project is based on the interaction of two contrasting volumes – the lower part of the building delicately integrates itself into the existing urban space, while the vertical tower marks the beginning of a new era in the area. The rhythmic lamella system used in the facade solution plays with light and shadow on different floors, creating a dynamic surface that changes with the changing daylight and perspective.

INNOVATION THAT RESPECTS THE CONTEXT

The building’s layout solution demonstrates how modern office needs can adapt to the existing urban environment, reducing shading on neighboring buildings and maintaining an airy sense of space. The staircase with elevators forms the backbone of the vertical connections, allowing for flexible office layouts on each floor. The public zone on the ground floor with its large glass surfaces invites the urban environment into the building, creating a bridge between private and public space.

The idea behind the competition was that a modern office building should be more than just a place to work – it should contribute to the revitalization of the entire area and become a place where people want to come.
